What is a Physiatrist

A Physiatrist is a physician specializing in the practice of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

These M.D.s specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems.

Physiatrists are experts in the management of pain and disability as a result of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions. These may include stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, arthritis, spinal stenosis, degenerative joint disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck and back pain, sports injuries, work-related injuries, motor vehicle accident injuries, and acute and chronic pain.
